Impact investing is on the rise, and clients are increasingly looking to their professional advisors for insight into this movement.  Program-Related Investments (PRIs) are one powerful tool in the philanthropic impact investing toolkit.  As below-market investments made primarily to advance an IRS charitable purpose, PRIs by definition lie at the intersection of charity and investing.  PRIs receive the same basic tax advantages as a one-time charitable donation or grant, but they have the potential to be reused over and over again for charitable impact.  PRIs are incredibly versatile and can be structured in any investment form (loans, equity, etc…) and made to any type of recipient (nonprofits, government, businesses, individuals, etc…).

This provocative presentation will cover four basic questions:  (1) What is impact investing; (2) What is a PRI; (3) Why would a philanthropist make a PRI; and (4) What options does a philanthropist have for making PRIs?   You will leave this session not only with a clear understanding of impact investing, but also prepared to consider how one of the movement’s most powerful tools, PRIs, may benefit your clients.
