When your client owes the IRS, there are a variety of ways to work to reduce and resolve the debt. In this presentation, we address a variety of collections-related topics, including: common collection letters from the IRS and how to respond to those letters; disputing federal tax assessments via audit reconsideration requests, requests for innocent spouse relief, and requests for trust fund recovery penalty abatement; and payment proposals for the resolution of outstanding liabilities, including offers in compromise, installment agreements, and partial payment installment agreements.

Learning Objectives
Attendees will learn about how the IRS attempts to collect unpaid taxes, including via liens and levies. Attendees will learn common ways to respond to collection action proposed by the IRS, including via requests for a collection due process or collection appeals hearing. Attendees will learn common ways for taxpayers to contest assessments they do not think they owe, including via trust fund recovery abatement requests and requests for innocent spouse relief. Attendees will learn about common ways to resolve IRS tax debts that cannot be immediately paid in full, including via an offer in compromise or an installment agreement.
