St. Paul Meeting - Tax Residency Issues

Date: Tuesday, April 19, 2011
Time: 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM
Location: Midland Hills Country Club
Speaker: Masha Yevzelman & Peter Hatinen

Two attorneys from the Minneapolis law firm of Fredrikson & Byron, P.A. will present on tax residency issues.  Masha Yevzelman will provide an overview of how to best advise clients on making a successful domicile change.  Having recently helped many taxpayers navigate such audits and appeals, Masha’s portion of the presentation will include insights into the Minnesota Department of Revenue’s mindset with regard to residency changes and its increased audit efforts of individuals who have attempted to change domicile to states without an income tax (e.g. Florida, Nevada, Texas, and Wyoming).  Masha will also cover recently proposed legislation of closing the “snowbird loophole” and deferred compensation.   Peter S. Hatinen’s portion of the presentation will discuss the impact the situs of an estate or trust has on income and transfer tax planning.
